Why do we foreigners live in countries where we cannot buy land in our own name? For example, Filipinos can purchase land in the United States whether or not they are U.S. citizens. So, why can’t us gringos own land in The Philippines and most countries in Southeast Asia? Yeah, there are creative ways around things but that’s not the point. And sure, you can put land in your wife or girlfriend’s name. But a split second before the ink dries on the contract, you’ve already lost all rights to your money; the money you worked 30 years for.
